Earning Extra Money Through Scrap Metal Recycling

Though the main reasons for recycling are generally altruistic, that doesn't mean that you can't earn a few extra bucks by doing the righ t thing.  J and S Recycling would like to remind you that there are certain recyclables that can indeed earn you money.  And while aluminum recycling, plastic recycling, and glass recycling will all earn you California Redemption Value for beverage containers, another often overlooked and potentially profitable arena is scrap metal recycling.  In fact many of those who recycle scrap metal find it an easy way to earn a few extra bucks.

Scrap is a term used for recyclable metals left over from every manner of product consumption.  When you think about it scrap metal is all around you.  From cans to car parts laying around the in the yard to rogue pieces of wire or car molding strips on the side of the road, the basis for earning a few dollars is there.  Exactly how much can you earn?  Well, 50 pounds of aluminum could net you some $25,  and the best part is that contrary to what you might think accumulating 50 pounds of metal doesn't take very long at all.

This isn't to say that you should go on walkabout seeking scrap metal in every nook and cranny of your hometown.  There are ways, however, to accumulate scrap metal for recycling purposes and make money by turning it in.  Aluminum and iron items are the most common and can add up in no time.  Imagine how quickly some aluminum doors and gutters would add up to 50 pounds.  The key is developing an eye for scrap metal, because it's literally all around you.

Look for curbside piles on trash days and bulk throwaway days (This practice is illegal in the state of California. Please check with your local state laws to see if this practice is legal in your area.). You’ll be amazed at the scrap metal recyclables you'll find there. Learn the schedules of these days in your city or town so you can check through these piles prior to pick-up. Find out if you are allowed to pick through scrap at the town dump in your town. And more than anything, put the word out that you are interested in obtaining scrap metal items. People looking to get such items out of their hair will be happy to let you take them off their hands.

Take a look around your world and see what types of scrap meal you can find.  Because in the world of recycling it's not only scrap metal, it's also money in your pocket.
